Solar battery systems will be eligible under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) beginning July 1, 2025.

Households and small companies may be eligible for a thirty per cent discount on the initial cost of installing small-scale battery installations. The discount will be calculated depending on the solar battery's useful capacity and will gradually decline until 2030.
Eligibility remains subject to amendments to the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001, and restrictions may alter. The proposed eligibility requirements for the program include:
A single solar battery system with a nominal (total) capacity of 5 kWh to 100 kWh will qualify.
The solar battery system's usable capacity will be used to compute the number of small-scale technology certificates (STCs) it's eligible for. Only the first 50 kWh of useful capacity will be eligible for STCs.
Solar battery systems must be placed with a new or existing solar photovoltaic (PV) system.
Solar battery systems must be listed on the Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved product list, installed by SAA-accredited installers, and meet all state and territory electrical safety criteria.
